Who Needs Digital Storage Solutions?

Many of you have been asking in our groups as well as inquiries I get through this site, on what is the best way to back up and store all of your files that you download.

I have top recommendations for two different types of storage that I personally use.

For many years now, I have used a small, Western Digital external drive that connects to my laptop via a USB cable for most of my files. I have them organized by Fonts and Cut Files. Then I further organize them by Personal Use Only or Commercial Use.

While I do go into the files when I download them and delete any file types I do not need, I always keep the Read Me file, as this will generally tell me where it came from and the usage guidelines as well.

You can find a decent Western Digital external hard drive here:

(I really like this one because it is compact!)

This external drive can be purchased in 1T, 2T, 3T, 4T, or 5T capacities.  It’s physical size is approximately 4.35 x 3.23 x 0.59 inches so it is compact enough to slip into your bag and take it with you. It only weighs 4.64 ounces so it is very portable.

It can be used with both Mac and Pc, and is extremely easy and fast to set up. Back up your designs and fonts or back up your entire computer!

The second external drive that I would recommend, is a little bit bigger and a little different. This is a recent addition to my storage solution but I have to say, I love it!

It is the Western Digital My Cloud Home Personal Cloud Storage. This is a little more pricey but it has been worth every penny. With this WD external hard drive, I am able to not only store all of my files and computer backups on it, I can access it from all of my devices, EVEN WHEN I AM NOT AT HOME. Yes. This external hard drive can be accessed through apps on your phone, tablets or computers.

One Central Place To Store and Organize Everything

My cloud home is an easy-to-use personal storage device that plugs directly into your Wi-Fi router at home so you can save all your digital content in one central place. You can automatically back up the files, photos and videos on your phone, and wirelessly back up and sync all your PC and Mac computers and cloud accounts. Use the USB port to quickly import photos, videos and documents from other devices, like USB flash drives and external hard drives. Access, upload and share those photos and videos from anywhere with an Internet connection using My cloud home apps for mobile, desktop and web. Use these simple apps for a smooth streaming experience of your personal videos to any device, anywhere.

This can be purchased in 2T, 3T, 4T, 6T, or 8T capacities.

More Cost Effective Solutions

If you are looking for a lower solution, or if you do not need such a large storage solution, there are several other smaller solutions that I can recommend. They are as follows:

The Sanfeya 5pk of Flash Drives comes in several different sizes of storage. This is a 5 pack with 5 different colors which makes it handy if you want to put for example, all font backups on one color, personal use cut files on a different color, etc.

The next drive is another one of my favorites. I purchased one of these several years ago and I still use it frequently. It is the OTG USB Flash Drive 64GB Memory Stick for Android Phones. This little USB flash drive has Micro USB connection on one end for your Android phone and a USB 2.0 connection on the other. This makes transferring photos, files, etc., a breeze from one device to the other. This frees up space on my phone, especially when I am out somewhere and I am taking a lot of photos. I always, ALWAYS, take this on vacation with me!

If you need a “C” connection, take a look at this device:

This particular thumb drive can be used with the Lightning port, USB 3.0 or Micro port for Android.

While there are many different solutions available to you, it all comes down to how you use your devices and where you use them along with how much storage you will need. I have found that whenever I purchase external storage, I always try to purchase more than I think I will ever need……because….well, because there are so many beautiful cut files and fonts! 🙂
